Leaves

Leaves Series

I am always picking leaves up on the ground and pressing them in the phone book. My Mom got me started on this; she was right, leaves are so varied and often gorgeous and, of course, free for the taking. My elementary school had vines all over the front and in the fall they would turn bright red and some were even pure white. I loved when this happened each autumn. One day I realized it would be wonderful to use actual leaves when creating monotypes. Using and reusing them brought many surprises, which is the beauty of monotype: surprise. These are multiple drop monotypes. I kept making layers, covering up and/or adding the inked leaves and sending the paper through the press again and again until I had an image that worked.
